Situated in a small crofting township, on the dramatic Trotternish peninsula, Valtos Croft House enjoys spectacular and ever changing views across the sea to the Island of Rhona, the Torridon hills and the Scottish Mainland beyond.
The cottage has been beautifully modernised and extended, whilst retaining much of the character and charm of a traditional island croft house. The spacious lounge is comfortably furnished, has Sky TV and DVD player, and the open fire is a cosy addition to the oil fired central heating.
The kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, coffee maker, washing machine and tumble drier, and there is a separate dining room.
Magnificent views can be enjoyed from the living room and dining room, as well as each of the three bedrooms. The downstairs double room has a super king-size bed and an en-suite wet room suitable for those with limited mobility.
Downstairs there is also family bathroom with walk in shower, WC and wash-hand basin. Upstairs there is an additional double bedroom and a twin bedroom.
Still an active crofting community, the township of Valtos is just a 15 minute drive from Portree, the capital town of Skye. The village of Staffin is just a short drive away and has two well stocked grocery shops, a small petrol point, a post office, tea room, and two cafes serving lunch and evening meals as well as home baking and tea/coffee. Even nearer is The Glenview restaurant serving evening meals endorsing local, seasonal produce (AA rosette).
Backed by the splendid mountains and fascinating rock formations of the Trotternish Ridge, the area is popular with those who love the outdoors. There are numerous nearby walking opportunities including; the majestic Quiraing, the isolated rocky pinnacle of the `Old Man of Storr', the dramatic headland of Rubha nam Brathairean (Brother’s Point); and the impressive, tartan-like cliffs of the Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls. Local fishing and boat trips can also be enjoyed, and you can even walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs at Staffin Bay.
If walking and outdoor pursuits do not appeal, you can take pleasure in that fantastic scenery from the comfort of your armchair and by the warmth of the fire. There are also local craft shops and heritage museums round visit. Valtos Croft House is the perfect place for exploring and discovering all that Skye has to offer.
